Target Scan For Anomalies / Level II Scan
One of the most crucial scans during pregnancy is the second-trimester anomaly scan, usually done between the 18th and 20th week.
Known as the Targeted Anomaly Scan / Level II Scan, it provides a comprehensive clinical assessment of the baby from head to toe. While the scan may not detect every possible issue, experienced gynecologists in Amritsar use it to closely examine the baby’s major organs including the brain, heart, kidneys, spine, bones, and face. It also helps assess fetal measurements and checks the placement of the placenta, which can indicate potential complications later in the pregnancy. Visit leading ultrasound centres in Amritsar at reputed fertility and maternity hospitals for accurate and detailed anomaly scans.

Key Objectives of the Anomaly Scan / Level II Scan:
- Fetal Support Evaluation: Ensures the placenta, amniotic fluid, and environment are conducive to healthy baby development.
- Movement Monitoring: Observes the baby’s movements to ensure normal activity.
- Organ Development Check: Assesses whether all vital organs have formed properly.
- Cervical Assessment: Measures the cervix to determine if it can support a full-term pregnancy.
- Placental Positioning: Identifies if the placenta’s location may cause issues in the later stages.

Frequently Asked Question
This Scan focuses on monitoring the fetus’s physical development, growth as well as to identify any structural (anatomical) abnormality. Level II Scan helps obstetrician to assess the growth and the development of the fetus based on accepted metrics and to assess the risk of the pregnancy. Risks are generally classified into two Low-Risk pregnancy & High-risk pregnancy. Normalcy of the developing fetus, structural abnormalities, impaired blood flow and functioning of the heart, are just a few of the findings that one can expect from a target Scan. A Doppler Study is performed to evaluate the blood flow to various parts of the fetus especially the placenta and the brain. Blood flow to other organs may be studied in indicated cases. It is important to remember that majority of babies are normal.
Level II Scan is usually done between the periods of 18 to 22 weeks of your pregnancy.

This Ultrasound imaging method also has certain limitations. Ultrasound cannot accurately diagnose the intestines and parts because the sound waves are obstructed by air and vapours. With ultrasound, the doctor can only see the outer surface of the bone, not the inside of the bone. In addition, ultrasound also limits the survey in overweight and obese people.
